For one of Massachusetts’ most established veterinary practices, with over two decades of 24-hour emergency services, specialized surgeries, and critical care capabilities, their team relies on high-speed internet access.

But when their WiFi connection was lagging and patients were wagging, they realized they needed a more dependable IT setup. The vet hospital partnered with Davin Tech Group to audit their wireless setup and staff needs, then we put together an actionable plan to get the team up to speed.

The challenge
Hospital staff needed secure, high-speed wireless connectivity

Staff members at the veterinary hospital are on the go, and they need to be able to get online from anywhere on-site at their locations. They also have to maintain patient privacy and ensure that everything happening on their network is secure.

This team also specifically pointed out their requirements for being able to quickly test and deploy mobile software solutions and devices.

The goals
Identify IT vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvement

This group is a high-tech veterinary hospital with multiple locations, and they wanted to partner with a local IT consultant to assess their IT operations, document any tech vulnerabilities, and propose a project plan to rethink their wireless access with primary goals of 1) speed, and 2) security.

The solution
Analyze the existing wireless system

To meet the goals of assessing their current systems and proposing a new plan, we had to learn about how they used their IT systems, where their vulnerabilities were, and any potential areas for improvement.

The process
Audit the IT setup, risks, and usage, then build out risk remediation plans

Our team began by meeting with the veterinary hospital’s leadership team and stakeholders to gather requirements, align expectations, and confirm assumptions.

We then scheduled site visits and interviewed staff at each facility to gather information on day-to-day operations and general staff interaction with in-house technology solutions. While on-site our team documented network and server configurations and capacity, security vulnerabilities, disaster recovery and backup processes, IT operations, and performed wireless and cellular service site surveys.

The outcome
A comprehensive IT management plan and budget to improve wireless network infrastructure

After compiling all of the key findings and data collected during the on-site assessments, our team began devising risk remediation plans for the IT vulnerabilities discovered and wireless network infrastructure recommendations based on the facility staff use cases and site-specific variables, such as neighboring wireless networks, facility construction, coverage and throughput needs, and an IT budget for the total cost of ownership over a five-year period.

The results
With a clear path forward and actionable next steps, the team began their wireless improvements

The tech guide and assessment our team put together became an integral part of the hospital’s ongoing IT management and future planning, and it prepared them to efficiently revamp their tech systems.

“Davin Tech Group did an awesome job assessing our clinical facilities. They uncovered and documented our IT risks, designed a project plan and budget to implement wireless access, and created actionable next steps to resolve our technology issues. I reference their technology assessment often and could not be happier with their work.”
